Fulbright Scholarship Amount

The Fulbright Scholarship amount varies from country to country. As I mentioned elsewhere, the Fulbright Scholarships vary immensely depending on your country of origin. The information given here is for the grants for PhD students doing research in the USA.

The Fulbright scholars in the USA I’ve talked to got from $1200 to $2300 per month in 2010, depending on part of the USA they lived in. Apart from the grant, they usually get $350 to cover expenses during first days in the US, and a $1000 books-and-supplies allowance. In some cases, the round-trip international transportation from your home country to the USA will be covered by a home country source.

My husband and i felt quite comfortable Edward managed to complete his basic research from the precious recommendations he gained in your weblog. It’s not at all simplistic just to find yourself giving out tactics which many others could have been making money from. And we remember we’ve got the blog owner to thank because of that. All the illustrations you’ve made, the simple website menu, the relationships your site give support to

Thank you for this useful information.
Since fulbright grants a student visa, I assume it is not possible to work during the stay in the USA. What about accomodation and basic living expenses? Also, is the full master’s degree program funded? Is the allowance enough for all expenses?
    Thank you in advance.

    • PhDfriend

It shouldn’t be a problem to work (internship?) but there might be a problem with getting payed. Contact your Fulbright representative in the USA about this. The living expenses can be checked for any city in the US here: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=United+States the grant is usually sufficient to cover the expenses. About the masters degree program funding, you should ask your Fulbright representative, as it differs between universities and countries.
